Environment Statement: 

 

 

         Social:

 

        increased emphasis on globalisation;

        increased  emphasis on creativity and innovation in developed societies;

        located in the most rapidly growing part of Tasmania;

        increased focus on private school education;

        relatively strong sense of community;

        increasing expectation that schools will take on more responsibilities that were traditionally those of the family;

        increasing concern for individual health and well-being

        decreasing unemployment and increasing skill shortages.

 

 

 

          Educational:

 

        improving community perception of the school;

        strong emphasis on relationships and effective behaviour management program;

        transition to proposed new school;

        new curriculum to replace ELS;

        new Government policy on community involvement in schools;

        increasing emphasis on accountability

 

 

         Technological:

 

        new classroom technology becoming available, particularly with new school;

        all staff have a laptop;

        most children have access to computers and the internet at home;

        many students have mobile phones

 

 

         Environmental:

 

        current school buildings inadequate for present and projected student numbers;

        not well suited to student-centred learning and the application of new technology to the classroom;

        location in centre of CBD not ideal;

        opportunity to engage with locally based commercial and government sectors that are leaders in science and technology eg Antarctic Division, Lightning Technology, Northwest Bay Ships;

        opportunity to enhance student access to recreation and sporting opportunities at new site;

        opportunity to better engage the community in the school  and their own ongoing learning

      their learning.

(a).  Beginning in Grade 7 2007, each student  completes a Personal Planning document, together with a folio of achievements while at KHS.

 

3(b):  All teachers have access to the students’ Personal Plans. 

 

3(c):  Teachers use the plan as a guide to support student learning.

(eg drug education).  Use community resources, be the provider of the venue.

 

5 (c):   Celebration assemblies held for each grade group at end of the year.
